Is Subnautica 2 cross-platform?
Yes. Cross-play joins every version: Steam, Epic and Xbox on PC, Xbox consoles and handhelds. Unknown Worlds' Dev Vlog Diving Together in Multiplayer (Feb 10, 2026) covered cross-play "including on the ROG Xbox Ally series and Steam Deck" (Unknown Worlds). To play across stores, open the Friends List, press Generate Code and Copy Code, and have the friend paste it and press Add Friend (PCGamesN, updated May 15, 2026). Up to four players share a world; hosting and joining are on Co-op and Multiplayer.
Xbox multiplayer needs Game Pass
Online co-op on Xbox consoles needs a Game Pass subscription; update 1.1 added a notice for Xbox players without one because "a Game Pass subscription (any tier) is required to play multiplayer" (Unknown Worlds, Jul 8, 2026). The same update added an Xbox option to report other players, and Hotfix 4 fixed a crash when joining an invite on Xbox (Unknown Worlds, Jul 14, 2026). Xbox patches arrive after Microsoft's certification, so they can land a little later than on PC.
Cross-save and moving a save
There is no account-wide cross-save. Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves keep a save within their own platform. To move a world between platforms or players, the game has cloud save codes: choose Upload to Cloud, copy the key, then choose Import Save on the other side and paste it; each code works once (PCGamesN). Since 1.2 a code can be pasted straight into the Cloud Save Download box (Unknown Worlds, Aug 19, 2026). Saves also record their build and branch, so a save from a newer build will not load in an older one (Unknown Worlds, Sep 1, 2026).
Is Subnautica 2 coming to PS5?
Not announced. No PlayStation version has been revealed as of Nov 4, 2026, and Vandal reported on Oct 20, 2026 that none was confirmed (Vandal). Insider Gaming expected a PS5 port only after the full release, by analogy with the first game, while saying it had "not seen or heard anything official" (Insider Gaming, Jul 14, 2025). Before Early Access, in its Jun 3, 2025 Q&A, Unknown Worlds said it was releasing on the platforms that support Game Preview or Early Access programs, PC and Xbox, and that it plans to bring the game to other platforms "when the time is right". Speculation about a year is not a plan.
As history only, not a promise: the first Subnautica spent its Early Access on PC, joined Xbox Game Preview in 2016, and reached Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2018, the year of its 1.0 (Unknown Worlds). If Subnautica 2 follows that pattern, PlayStation would come at or after 1.0, which itself is about 2 to 3 years from May 2026 (Roadmap and 1.0 Release).
Is Subnautica 2 on Switch 2?
No, and none is announced. The first two games came to Switch 2 on Feb 17, 2026 as Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, with a free upgrade for Switch owners (Nintendo Life, February 2026). MP1st only speculated that Subnautica 2's Steam Deck results "bode well" for a Switch 2 version (MP1st, May 14, 2026). No Mac or Linux build exists; the Steam Deck runs the Windows build through Proton.
