Dev Vlogs
Unknown Worlds has published Subnautica 2 Dev Vlogs since Apr 24, 2025, seven before launch, then Update Vlogs for 1.1 and 1.2 and the Voyage to Early Access 2 series (Oct 15, Oct 22 and Nov 3, 2026), plus the Waterside Q&A and the May 9, 2026 Pre-Launch Showcase.
Unknown Worlds' Subnautica 2 Dev Vlogs are developer videos posted on YouTube and announced on Steam, from Road to Early Access on Apr 24, 2025 to the latest, From Creatures to Chassis on Nov 3, 2026, the second episode of the Voyage to Early Access 2 series. Seven Dev Vlogs led up to the May 14, 2026 launch, each on one subject (the world, the Collector Leviathan, the Tadpole, multiplayer, base building), with a Waterside Q&A in 2025 and a two-hour Pre-Launch Showcase on May 9, 2026. Since launch the studio has posted Dev Vlog Swimming Forward, an Update Vlog the day before each numbered update, and from Oct 15 the Voyage to Early Access 2 run building up to Early Access 2 in December. Anthony Gallegos, Design Lead and later Creative Director, hosts most of them. This page lists every one in order with what Unknown Worlds says it covered.

Before Early Access (2025 and early 2026)
The series opened with Road to Early Access when the game was still due in 2025. After the Jul 9, 2025 delay to 2026, the studio said its next vlog would come "a little later than intended", and the Collector Leviathan vlog followed in September. The pre-launch vlogs then took one system each: the world, a leviathan, the Tadpole, multiplayer and Base Building. Alongside them ran the audio drama Voices from Beyond (Nov 2025 to Mar 2026) and, in April 2026, Dive into the Legacy, four community stories about players of the earlier games rather than new lore.
In Welcome Aboard, Captains (May 5, 2026), the last vlog before launch, Gallegos said Early Access would run "for at least two years" with three kinds of update: hotfixes when needed, smaller updates on balance and polish, and larger ones that add biomes, story and progression. See Roadmap and 1.0 Release.
The Pre-Launch Showcase (May 9, 2026)
The Pre-Launch Showcase aired at 08:00 PDT on May 9, 2026 on the official YouTube, Twitch and Bilibili channels, running about 120 minutes. It debuted the Early Access Gameplay Trailer with talks and demos from the team. In the broadcast Community Manager Donya hosted with the creator PointCrow as co-host, and they opened the program by playing the new trailer. Viewers who watched at least 20 minutes on Twitch earned an in-game Seamoth Statue, claimable in Settings under "Link Twitch Account" until Jun 30, 2026.
After launch: Swimming Forward and the Update Vlogs
Swimming Forward (Jun 4, 2026) was the first vlog after launch. Gallegos thanked players and announced the end of rapid hotfixes. PCGamesN reported that he also teased the new region, home of the Collector Leviathan, and a chassis that "brings back one of the most-requested player experiences", with the line "get ready to get stompy". That chassis is the Frog, now due with Early Access 2. Each numbered update since has had an Update Vlog the day before: 1.1 on Jul 7 and 1.2 on Aug 18.
Voyage to Early Access 2 (since Oct 15, 2026)
The Voyage to Early Access 2 series builds up to the "next big content update". In its first video Gallegos called the update the "most substantial" since launch, GamingBolt reported: a new region with several biomes, more of the colonists' story, many new creatures, a scarier Collector Leviathan, new Biomods, Dash moving to the Fins, and the Frog chassis, which gives the Tadpole limbs.
Steam calls Beyond the Surface (Oct 22) "the first episode", with narrative designers Seth Dickinson and Tim Partlett on "the growing history of the Axum" and letting players piece the story together. In the video the team says the update tells more of both the colonists' story and the Axum's, mostly through environmental storytelling: fragments of narrative in points of interest that players assemble in any order.
From Creatures to Chassis (Nov 3), "the second episode", gave the month: December. In it animators, designers and programmers describe the Tar Eel, which lies low in flowing tar to challenge players on the ground; the Descender, a fish that looks toward the Collector and hides from it; the Collector's four tentacles, now physically simulated so it can grab surfaces and pull itself along; and the Frog Chassis, "like an exosuit" set of arms and legs for the Tadpole with a strong jump, a dash and climbing, compared with the first game's Prawn Suit. Whether more episodes come before the update, and when, is not announced as of Nov 4, 2026. See Early Access 2, Story and Lore and The Axum.

Early Access Release DateSubnautica 2 came out in Early Access on May 14, 2026 at 08:00 PDT (15:00 UTC) on Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox, after a delay from 2025. The next big update, Early Access 2, is due in December 2026.
-
Early Access 2Early Access 2 is Subnautica 2's next big content update, due in December 2026 with no day announced. Unknown Worlds promises a new region with several biomes, more of the colonists' and Axum story, new and returning creatures, a scarier Collector Leviathan, new Biomods and the Frog chassis for the Tadpole.
-
Collector LeviathanThe Collector Leviathan is Subnautica 2's giant squid, found in the trench about 700 m east of the Lifepod past the hot Graveyard waters; it cannot be killed, so you cross its trench low along the bottom in a Tadpole. Scanning it teaches the Sonic Echo Biomod.
-
TadpoleThe Tadpole is Subnautica 2's only submersible in Early Access, built at a Vehicle Fabricator on a Moonpool from 2 Titanium Ingots, 1 Glass, 1 System Chip and 1 Power Cell. Its crush depth is 250 m until a Depth Module raises it, and it takes the Scout Ray and Haul chassis. -
Co-op and MultiplayerSubnautica 2 can be played solo or in online co-op for up to four players (a host and three friends), with cross-play between Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox through friend codes. The world lives in the host's save, and there are no dedicated servers.
-
Base BuildingIn Subnautica 2 you build bases with the Habitat Builder, a tool unlocked by scanning two fragments at the Welcome Center near the Lifepod. Rooms, corridors, hatches and a Moonpool cost mostly Titanium, and a base needs power before its hatch supplies oxygen.
