Settings and Accessibility

Subnautica 2 has had a FOV slider since update 1.1 (Jul 8, 2026), Proximity Voice Chat settings since 1.2, DLSS 4.5 with Frame Generation up to 6x, 11 languages on Steam, and 19 accessibility features by Xbox's count.

Subnautica 2's settings, as of Nov 4, 2026, include a FOV slider (added in update 1.1 on Jul 8, 2026), voice chat set to always on, push to talk or off (added in 1.2 on Aug 19), a remappable sprint key, Underwater Blur and Profanity Filter toggles, an analytics switch, and on PC a full graphics menu with DLSS 4.5, Frame Generation up to 6x, Nvidia Reflex and TSR. Xbox's store page counts 19 accessibility features without listing them, and Steam lists 11 languages. Unknown Worlds publishes no complete settings list, so this page gathers what the patch notes and stores name, and which patch changed what. Settings are found in the pause menu and Main Menu.

How do you change the FOV in Subnautica 2?

Open Settings and move the FOV slider, added in update 1.1 after many requests. On Xbox the slider did not appear until Hotfix 4. Update 1.2 made FOV changes apply at once instead of only after leaving Settings, and stopped the dive mask clipping into the camera while adjusting it (1.2 notes). Before 1.1 the view was fixed at 90 and PC players used the Comfort Tweaks mod (Game Rant, May 17, 2026); see Mods. The clip is Aci's Jul 8, 2026 video on the 1.1 build, where the slider sits in Settings and the HUD looks briefly broken until the change is saved.

Voice chat and multiplayer settings

Proximity Voice Chat has three modes: always on, push to talk and always off. Voices fade with distance: in Spyro ZA's Aug 20, 2026 test on the 1.2 build they turned to a walkie-talkie sound, broke up at about 190 m and cut out at about 200 m. Buddy System Hotfix 1 fixed push-to-talk input and Hotfix 2 improved voice activity detection. The Profanity Filter no longer turns itself back on each session since 1.1. On Xbox, 1.1 added an option to report other users, and online play there needs any tier of Game Pass. See Co-op and Multiplayer.

Graphics and performance settings

Settings named in the patch notes, by the patch that changed them:

Setting What changed
DLSS Crashes and unsaved settings fixed, upgraded to 4.5 (Hotfix 3, Jun 1, 2026)
Frame Generation Made available in all versions (Hotfix 3); 5x, 6x and Dynamic Frame Generation for RTX 5000 (1.2)
VSync Can run with DLSS Frame Generation (1.2); turns off when DLSS Dynamic FrameGen is picked (Buddy System Hotfix 2)
Nvidia Reflex Description added; fixed alongside Frame Generation (1.2)
TSR min and max sliders Show correct values (1.1); inconsistency fixed (1.2)
Graphics Quality presets Settings now apply when changed right after picking a preset (1.2)
Run Hardware Benchmark Now asks for a restart when it changes Global Illumination (1.2)
Shadow quality World Tree flicker at High fixed (1.2)
Underwater Blur Stays off when toggled off (1.1)
Frame cap Nvidia gaming laptops no longer capped at 60 fps (1.1)
Epic preset Better performance (Hotfix 2)

In TroubleChute's May 14, 2026 settings guide, on the launch build, the Graphics tab has Motion Blur and Underwater Blur toggles, upscaling set to DLSS, TSR or off with no AMD FSR option, a Run Hardware Benchmark button and Low, Medium, High and Epic presets, and the game has no built-in FPS counter.

In the same guide's tests, Effects was the costliest setting (Epic dropped him from about 65 to 50 fps), Clouds mattered above water, and Global Illumination, Foliage, Reflections and Landscape made no measurable difference. These are one creator's launch-build measurements on his own PC, not Unknown Worlds' advice.

The ROG Xbox Ally has a default graphics preset, per Xbox Wire. See System Requirements and Steam Deck and Handhelds.

Controls

Subnautica 2 plays with mouse and keyboard or a controller; Xbox Wire names the Xbox controller as a primary input. Keys can be remapped, and 1.1 added a default sprint binding for running out of the water. F8 opens the feedback tool. Controller and handheld fixes so far:

  • 1.1 fixed jittery scrolling through Settings on handhelds and controllers, handhelds showing mouse-and-keyboard prompts on first launch, keyboard input lost after picking a text field with a controller, keybind icons on the Windows Store version, and truncated keybindings in some languages (1.1 notes).
  • 1.2 fixed Settings menus cut off when navigating with a gamepad, the audiolog playback button unreachable on controller, the controller accessibility highlight staying after leaving Settings, and the "Close" keybind on Pioneer Selection (1.2 notes).

A full default key list is not published by Unknown Worlds as of Nov 4, 2026.

Accessibility

Xbox's store page lists 19 accessibility features for Subnautica 2 but does not name them on the page read on Nov 4, 2026. Features the patch notes name include subtitles (1.2 added a subtitle line for the Air Bladder inhale in Buddy System Hotfix 1), a controller accessibility highlight, audiologs with elapsed and remaining time and replay from the PDA, the Underwater Blur toggle, the FOV slider, and remappable keys. Since 1.1 audiologs no longer play automatically, which also stops them overlapping in co-op. The "Unstuck" option frees a stuck player and since 1.2 works inside a Tadpole.

Languages

Steam lists 11 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America) and Ukrainian (Steam, read Nov 4, 2026). Xbox lists 10. Localization fixes have come in most patches: 1.1 fixed cut-off names and keybindings and wrong translations, 1.2 localized remaining lines and units of measurement, and Buddy System Hotfix 1 restored missing PDA and Databank translations. Changing the language now updates signal names straight away (1.2).

Privacy and other settings

Analytics can be turned off at any time in Settings, and since Hotfix 1 they start only after the Terms of Service are accepted; Buddy System Hotfix 1 made the analytics toggle reliable. Settings also hold "Link Twitch Account" and "Check Twitch Drops" for Twitch rewards (May 2, 2026), and since 1.2 the volume sliders sit in a new order. See Launch Hotfixes.
