Equipment
Subnautica 2's wearable equipment is three air tanks (Standard, High Capacity, Ultra High Capacity), Basic and Improved Fins and the Rebreather, all made at the Fabricator, while carrying space grows at seven Upgrade Biobeds (five add 3 inventory slots each, two add a quickbar slot). The Standard Air Tank and Basic Fins are known from the start; the others are scanned or crafted from them.
Subnautica 2's first two pieces of equipment are known from the start: the Standard Air Tank (Titanium x2, Rubber x1, Silver x2), which adds 30 to maximum oxygen, and Basic Fins (Rubber x2, Fiber x2), a small boost to swim speed. Later come the High Capacity and Ultra High Capacity Air Tanks, Improved Fins and the Rebreather, and inventory space grows at Upgrade Biobeds in colonist bunkers. Kotaku measured the starting breath at 45 seconds, with the first upgrade reaching only 75. Recipes and positions are from guides on the Early Access launch build (May 2026), and Early Access 2 in December 2026 changes the Fins: GamingBolt reports Dash moves from the Biomods to the Fins. Kysen's May 14, 2026 guide, in the clip, shows the same 45 to 75 seconds on the launch build.

The Standard Air Tank is the first upgrade worth making, and Silver is what holds it up: Game Rant advises saving the first two Silver for it before tools or electronics. The High Capacity tank needs a Plasteel Ingot (Titanium x2 and Lithium at the Processor), so it waits for Heat Tolerance; the Ultra tank needs Troilite and Atacamite from the eastern edge of the map. No allowed guide has published how much oxygen the two bigger tanks hold, as of Nov 4, 2026. Everything else about breathing is on Oxygen, Food and Water. IzPrebuilt's May 14, 2026 video, on the launch build, adds that a spare tank can be carried for about 30 more seconds of air, but must be refilled by hand in an air pocket, unlike the Air Bladder.
Fins
Basic Fins (Rubber x2, Fiber x2) are known from the start and give a small boost to overall swim speed (Game Rant, May 14, 2026). Improved Fins (Basic Fins x1, Fiber Mesh x1, Conduit Crystal x2) come from three fragments in and around the abandoned base in the Alien Ruins (Game Rant, May 16, 2026), so they are late: Conduit Crystal lies 300 m deep or more. Update 1.2 replaced a placeholder icon on the Improved Fins blueprint (Unknown Worlds, Aug 19, 2026).
In the Oct 15, 2026 vlog, Creative Director Anthony Gallegos said Early Access 2 moves Dash to the Fins, so it no longer takes a Biomod slot (GamingBolt, Oct 15, 2026). Other speed help: the Sea Skimmer Biomod near the seafloor and the Wakemaker.
Rebreather
The Rebreather (Fiber Mesh x2, System Chip x1) is scanned in a room behind an engraved hatch at about 88 m deep, at a heading of about 240 degrees from the Lifepod: head to a cliff and dive. The Moonpool blueprint is in the same room (Destructoid, May 16, 2026). Beebom places a Rebreather wreck in the Dolerite Spires. Destructoid's blueprint guide gives its location but not its effect, and Unknown Worlds has not described it (as of Nov 4, 2026); recorded play shows it: in Kysen's May 14, 2026 guide, on the launch build, it lets you breathe normally in the more pressurized depths, where without it oxygen runs out faster, twice as fast in Lucky Ghost's May 14, 2026 video. Update 1.2 fixed it clipping into the character's mask.
Suits
Patch notes name three suits: the Cicada dive suit worn in the starting area, the EVA Suit and the AEP Suit; Buddy System Hotfix 2 (Oct 6, 2026) fixed the AEP Suit showing the EVA Suit's icon. How the AEP Suit is obtained and what it does are not published in any source read for this page (as of Nov 4, 2026). Hot water is handled by the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, not by equipment.
Inventory and quickbar
The inventory starts at 20 slots, and the hotbar adds five for tools and consumables (Game Rant, May 14, 2026). It grows only at Upgrade Biobeds in Colonist Bunkers, permanent upgrades taken once: Game Rant counts seven, five Endurance beds (+3 inventory slots each, 15 in all) and two Dexterity beds (+1 quickbar slot each). IzPrebuilt's May 14, 2026 video, on the launch build, found a Biobed in each hidden chamber and went back to them all after missing the upgrades the first time.
| Bunker | Where (from the Lifepod) | Upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Quaker's Meetinghouse | 220 m southeast, with Chap's blackbox (Game Rant); 250 m southwest below a cliff marked "X" (Destructoid) | Endurance |
| Anita's Garden | 90 m northeast | Endurance |
| Salvage | 210 m north-northeast | Dexterity |
| Unauthorized NOA Modification | 265 m southwest at 85 m, near the Great Jaw | Endurance |
| Sophie's Retreat | 440 m north | Endurance |
| Nahema's Lab | 355 m southeast; needs Heat Tolerance | Dexterity |
| Cicada Wreck | 475 m east; needs Heat Tolerance | Endurance |
Source: Game Rant (Christopher Norman Worcester), May 23, 2026, the launch build; conflict from Destructoid, May 17, 2026, which lists Chap's as a separate Biobed.
Since 1.2, a beep sounds near upgrade spots and the screen flashes on use (Unknown Worlds, Aug 19, 2026). In co-op these upgrades are personal, not shared (Game Rant).
Storage beyond the body: a Portable Locker (Titanium x4) holds 15 slots and can be carried or attached to a vehicle (Destructoid; Game Rant). Metal Salvage takes one slot and becomes four Titanium, and turning Lucifer Rotsac into Rubber early saves space (Game Rant). In Lucky Ghost's May 14, 2026 video, on the launch build, one snapped onto the Tadpole's back gives it 15 slots, almost doubling what you carry while roaming.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get more oxygen in Subnautica 2? Craft the Standard Air Tank (Titanium x2, Rubber x1, Silver x2), known from the start, for +30 oxygen, then the High Capacity tank (adds a Plasteel Ingot) and the Ultra High Capacity tank (adds three Troilite and three Atacamite). An Air Bladder restores 25 oxygen per use.
Where is the Rebreather blueprint in Subnautica 2? In a room behind an engraved hatch at about 88 m deep, about 240 degrees from the Lifepod, the same room as the Moonpool blueprint (Destructoid, May 16, 2026).
How do I get Improved Fins in Subnautica 2? Scan three fragments in and around the abandoned base in the Alien Ruins, then craft them from Basic Fins, Fiber Mesh and two Conduit Crystals.
How do I increase inventory space in Subnautica 2? Use the Upgrade Biobeds in Colonist Bunkers: five give +3 slots each and two give +1 quickbar slot (Game Rant, May 23, 2026). A Portable Locker adds 15 carryable slots.
What does the High Capacity Air Tank need in Subnautica 2? A Standard Air Tank and a Plasteel Ingot, which is two Titanium and one Lithium at the Processor.
Will Dash move to the Fins in Subnautica 2? Yes, with Early Access 2 in December 2026, as Anthony Gallegos said in the Oct 15, 2026 vlog (reported by GamingBolt), freeing a Biomod slot.

Early Access 2Early Access 2 is Subnautica 2's next big content update, due in December 2026 with no day announced. Unknown Worlds promises a new region with several biomes, more of the colonists' and Axum story, new and returning creatures, a scarier Collector Leviathan, new Biomods and the Frog chassis for the Tadpole.
-
SilverIn Subnautica 2, Silver is found in shallow caves north of the Lifepod, marked by orange Pent plants at the cave mouths, and Unknown Worlds added more Silver to the early game region in Hotfix 2 and in Coral Gardens in update 1.1. It makes the Standard Air Tank, Wiring Kits, the Wakemaker and Silver Ingots.
-
ResourcesSubnautica 2's resources run from Titanium, Copper and Quartz around the Lifepod, through Silver and Lead to the north and northeast and Gold, Sulfur and Lithium in the hot volcanic area, to Celestine, Conduit Crystal, Troilite and Atacamite in the far east. This page lists each one with where guides found it on the launch build, the tool it needs and what it makes.
-
TroiliteIn Subnautica 2, Troilite is a late-game resource broken out of green Mineralized Clinkers with the Sonic Resonator around the green pools of the Axum Metal Farms, far east of the Alien Ruins and below about 400 m, with a Collector Leviathan nearby. Hotfix 2 added more Troilite areas, and it makes Mangalloy Ingots, the Ultra High Capacity Air Tank and the Depth Module Mk. 2.
-
Oxygen, Food and WaterSubnautica 2 tracks four stats, Health, Hunger, Thirst and Oxygen; oxygen starts at about 45 seconds and the Standard Air Tank adds 30. Water is crafted from Water Slugs at the Fabricator (+40 Water), and food is cooked fish and Fabricator meals, safe only after the Digestion Adaptation; until then the Lifepod's Nutrient Blocks are the food.
-
BiomodsSubnautica 2's Biomods are swappable abilities chosen at a Biolab, 5 active and 10 passive on the launch build, four of them known from the start and the rest unlocked by scanning creatures with the Bioscanner. Update 1.1 added two Biolabs and passive slots earned by scan counts, and Early Access 2 (December 2026) moves Dash to the Fins and adds new Biomods.
