Lead
In Subnautica 2, Lead lies on the seafloor northeast of the Lifepod at about 60 m deep, below a Cicada Wreck, though guides disagree on the distance (about 254 m or about 340 m). It is needed for the Sonic Resonator, Germanium Ingots and Sugar of Saturn.
Lead in Subnautica 2 is on the seafloor northeast of the Lifepod at about 60 m deep, where Game Rant counted "hundreds" of deposits below the Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage), about 340 m out, while TheGamer puts the same kind of field about 254 m east-northeast, at a heading of 65 degrees, also at 60 m. Both guides describe the launch build of May 2026. Lead matters early because the Sonic Resonator needs two of it, and without the Resonator there is no Heat Tolerance, no large nodes and no way through the Bloom. Other materials are on Resources. The clip is Kysen's May 14, 2026 beginner guide, on the launch build: a current through a cave northeast of the Lifepod leads to Lead on the floor, beside a large node that needs the Resonator.

Where is Lead in Subnautica 2?
Swim northeast from the Lifepod and drop to about 60 m. Game Rant's route ends below a Cicada Wreck it calls the Lander Garage, about 340 m out, where Lead covers the seafloor; small deposits come off by hand, one Lead each, and the large ones give five with a Sonic Resonator (Game Rant, May 14, 2026). TheGamer gives a shorter heading, about 254 m at 65 degrees, and adds a Tadpole fragment on a research table by the deposits (TheGamer, May 16, 2026). Breathtaker's May 18, 2026 resource guide, on the May 2026 build, sends players to the caves and trenches of the northern Coral Gardens, and to the Needler Nest caves for more later.
The two positions may be different parts of one field or two fields; neither guide mentions the other, and no later guide has settled it. Beebom's biome list adds a sandy, barren "Lead Zone" of ridges about 400 m northwest, with Lead, Copper and Titanium, where the Deepwing Brooder is seen (Beebom, May 19, 2026). "Lead Zone" is a guide's name, not the game's. A creator's recording of the launch build sits between them: in Jade PG CRAFTED's May 16, 2026 guide, Lead begins at a large wreck about 380 m from the Lifepod at a heading of about 30, east of the purple jelly zone, with small deposits in the gully and in the caves under the wreck and larger ones in the gully beside it.
TheGamer warns that Lead and Titanium look alike; check the pickup name. Game Rant suggests building your first base at least 100 m northeast of the Lifepod so a Scanner Station's 300 m range covers the Lead site (see Best Base Locations). Since update 1.2, large Lead nodes show the resource ping icon, which they did not before.
What Lead makes
As listed by Destructoid on May 16, 2026 (the launch build) and TheGamer on May 15, 2026:
| Item | Station | Recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Sonic Resonator | Fabricator | Basic Battery x1, Titanium Ingot x2, Lead x2, Wiring Kit x1 |
| Germanium Ingot | Processor | Lead x2 (or Silver x2) |
| Sugar of Saturn | Fabricator | Lead x1, Salt x1 (makes 2, +10 Food each) |

Germanium goes into Power Storage, and Sugar of Saturn into Cherimoya Chutney, Coral Mash and Pavlova, so Lead keeps being useful after the Resonator. All recipes are on Crafting Recipes.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Lead in Subnautica 2? Northeast of the Lifepod at about 60 m deep, below a Cicada Wreck: about 340 m out in Game Rant's guide and about 254 m at 65 degrees in TheGamer's, both on the May 2026 launch build.
What do I need Lead for in Subnautica 2? Two Lead go into the Sonic Resonator, the tool that opens Heat Tolerance and clears the Bloom; Lead also makes Germanium Ingots and Sugar of Saturn.
Can I mine Lead by hand in Subnautica 2? Yes, the small deposits (1 Lead each). The large deposits need the Sonic Resonator and give 5.
Why does my Lead look like Titanium in Subnautica 2? The two ores look alike; TheGamer notes they are easy to confuse, so read the name on pickup.

Tools and ModificationsSubnautica 2's tools are the Survival Multitool, Scanner, Flashlight, Habitat Builder, Sonic Resonator, Wakemaker, Repair Tool, Air Bladder, Distraction Flare and, since update 1.2, the Tracking Tag, plus two Prototype Tool Modifications made at the Modification Station, the Bioscanner and the Feedback Resonator. There are no weapons. This page gives each tool's recipe, blueprint and use.
-
The BloomThe Bloom is Subnautica 2's infection: biofilm, sap, cankers and parasites that block caves, infect creatures and Angel Combs, and cannot be cleared by hand. You get past it with the Sonic Resonator, and the armored pink cankers need the Feedback Resonator; some places and guides call it the Blight.
-
ResourcesSubnautica 2's resources run from Titanium, Copper and Quartz around the Lifepod, through Silver and Lead to the north and northeast and Gold, Sulfur and Lithium in the hot volcanic area, to Celestine, Conduit Crystal, Troilite and Atacamite in the far east. This page lists each one with where guides found it on the launch build, the tool it needs and what it makes.

Deepwing BrooderThe Deepwing Brooder is Subnautica 2's peaceful Leviathan, a huge winged arthropod that drifts rarely through any biome laying eggs; its Deepwing Egg Clumps are a food ingredient, scannable since update 1.2, and fans designed it in the #LeviathanAwakens contest before launch.
-
Best Base LocationsThe guides' best base spots in Subnautica 2 are a plateau by a water current about 200 m east of the Lifepod for free turbine power, the thermal vents about 630 m east for steady Thermal Plant power, and an outpost near the Alien Ruins about 1,150 m east for the late game.

Crafting RecipesSubnautica 2's recipes by station, as listed by Destructoid on May 16, 2026 (the Early Access launch build) with conflicts from other guides beside them, for example Titanium Ingot (Titanium x3 at the Processor), Wiring Kit (Silver x1, Copper Wire x1) and Basic Battery (Copper x2, Acidic Raion Pouch x1). Hotfix 3 cut Interior Wall cost to a quarter, and no guide has republished a full list since updates 1.1 and 1.2.
