Necrolei Hills
The Necrolei Hills are Subnautica 2's infected hills about 300 m northwest of the Lifepod, the main source of Necrolei Cysts for Strong Acid, with Copper, Titanium, Deepwing Egg Clumps and fauna mutated by the Bloom.
The Necrolei Hills are a biome of infected hills about 300 m northwest of Subnautica 2's Lifepod, shallow to mid depth, and the main place to cut Necrolei Cysts, the plant you need for Strong Acid; Beebom calls it the main hub for the Cysts and describes its fauna as heavily mutated by the infection (May 19, 2026). It sits beside the Anemone Hills, which All Things How also places about 300 m northwest. "Necrolei Hills" is the guides' name, on the launch build of May 2026; Unknown Worlds' notes do not use it.

Where is the Necrolei Cyst in Subnautica 2?
A Necrolei Cyst is the small flower on top of a Stilt Orb, a green, onion-like plant with pink roots. Game Rant finds them about 300 m northwest of the Lifepod at 25 m, on the launch build (May 14, 2026): cut one per Stilt Orb with the Survival Multitool. All Things How also lists Necrolei Cysts in the Plateaus. Since 1.2 Buddy System (Aug 19, 2026), "Necrolei Cysts can now be planted in Growbeds" (Unknown Worlds), so a few cuttings in a base Growbed save trips back here. See Farming.
Jade's May 16, 2026 guide, on the launch build, finds the Stilt Orbs north-northwest of the Lifepod on a bearing of about 350, just west of the purple jelly area of the Plateaus and next door to the anemones. The plant may scan as "Stilt Orb" and show its real name only when you look straight down at it with a tool in hand; she expects the Cysts to grow back.
What Necrolei Cysts are for
On Destructoid's launch-build list, Strong Acid is made from 2 Necrolei Cysts, or from 1 Sulfur and 1 Gold once you can reach the Graveyard (May 16, 2026). Strong Acid goes into Fiber Mesh (and so the Rebreather), the Power Cell, the Advanced Battery, the Dedicated Core, the Scout Ray chassis and the Photovoltaic Charger, which makes the Cysts one of the most used early plants. Full recipes are on Crafting Recipes; 1.2 also shows sources of Acid as green dots in the Scanner HUD (Unknown Worlds).
Creatures and the infection
Beebom's list for the hills is Halfmoon, Foureye, Hycean, Stilt Orb, Necrolei, Waxmoon and Periscopic Clowncrab (May 19, 2026). Foureyes attack divers; 1.2 fixed their attack hitbox (Unknown Worlds). 1.1 added the missing scan icons for the Necrolei and the Periscopic Clowncrab (Unknown Worlds). Infected areas show muted colors and their creatures turn aggressive (Wccftech, May 14, 2026). Deepwing Egg Clumps, left by the drifting Deepwing Brooder, have been scannable since 1.2. See Creatures.

Anemone HillsThe Anemone Hills are Subnautica 2's biome of towering pink-and-green anemones about 300 m northwest of the Lifepod, 0 to 151 m deep, where the infected Heat Tolerance Angel Comb waits behind Bloom you clear with the Sonic Resonator.
-
The BloomThe Bloom is Subnautica 2's infection: biofilm, sap, cankers and parasites that block caves, infect creatures and Angel Combs, and cannot be cleared by hand. You get past it with the Sonic Resonator, and the armored pink cankers need the Feedback Resonator; some places and guides call it the Blight.
-
PlateausThe Plateaus are Subnautica 2's rocky biome about 300 m northeast of the Lifepod, 23 to 119 m deep by All Things How's count, with Camp One, the Old Habitat and the caves that hold the early Silver; the sandy Lead Zone lies nearby.
-
FarmingFarming in Subnautica 2 means Growbeds, built for Titanium x1, that grow plants from a seed item such as a Pent, Lucifer Rotsac or Fibrous Pulp, and since update 1.2 Necrolei Cysts. The Metal Farm, an Axum machine, grows a chosen resource on base power.
-
GraveyardThe Graveyard is Subnautica 2's hot, orange-watered biome, 0 to 266 m deep, that needs the Heat Tolerance Adaptation; it holds Gold, Salt, Sulfur and Lithium, the Tadpole Pens, Tailings Village, a Cicada Wreck, Nahema's Lab and hundreds of Water Slugs.

Crafting RecipesSubnautica 2's recipes by station, as listed by Destructoid on May 16, 2026 (the Early Access launch build) with conflicts from other guides beside them, for example Titanium Ingot (Titanium x3 at the Processor), Wiring Kit (Silver x1, Copper Wire x1) and Basic Battery (Copper x2, Acidic Raion Pouch x1). Hotfix 3 cut Interior Wall cost to a quarter, and no guide has republished a full list since updates 1.1 and 1.2.
