Dangerous Creatures
Subnautica 2's dangerous creatures below Leviathan size are the Marrowbreach, Hammerhead, Nibbler Mango, Needler Mango, Bullethead, Twin Sitaray, Sandspear, Foureye, Bloom Parasite and Tongue Thief; none can be killed, so you deter them with the Survival Multitool, the Sonic Resonator and flares.
The creatures that will attack you in Subnautica 2, below the Leviathans, are the Marrowbreach, the Hammerhead, the Nibbler Mango, the Needler Mango, the Bullethead, the Twin Sitaray, the Sandspear, the Foureye, the Bloom Parasite and the Tongue Thief, a parasite of other fish. None of them can be killed, because Subnautica 2 has no weapons. What works, as of Nov 4, 2026: hit a creature with the Survival Multitool and it flees without fighting back for a while (since 1.1); a Sonic Resonator blast stuns it for 10 seconds (since 1.2); a flare draws a Marrowbreach or Nibblers away (Unknown Worlds, Aug 19, 2026; PCGamesN, May 14, 2026). Unknown Worlds has retuned almost every one of them since launch, after admitting on May 20, 2026 that predator encounters felt "more frustrating than tense or exciting" (Unknown Worlds). The clip is Spyro ZA's Jul 10, 2026 video on update 1.1, before 1.2 lengthened the Resonator's stun.

Every dangerous creature
Where each lives is from the launch-build biome guides of Beebom (May 19, 2026), All Things How (May 20, 2026) and PCGamesN; how each attacks is from its Databank entry as Dexerto quotes it and from Unknown Worlds' patch notes.

|---|---|---|---|
| Marrowbreach | Camp One in the Plateaus, Anemone Hills, Graveyard | Circles, test-bumps, then bites | Flares, Multitool, Resonator |
| Hammerhead | Dolerite Spires, Anemone Hills | Closes a head shield and rams | Flares, Multitool |

| Needler Mango | Needler Nests near the Axum ruins | Fires tusks from range | Keep away from nests |
| Bullethead | Not listed | Swarms ram tail-first | Dodge; turn off alarms and beacons |
| Twin Sitaray | Not listed | Electric stun, in pairs | Distance; it threatens powered vehicles and bases |
| Sandspear | Buried in sand nests | Grabs from the ground | Do not brush its nest |
| Foureye | Necrolei Hills, Anemone Hills | Bites | Multitool |
| Bloom Parasite | Bloom areas | Poison | Sonic or Feedback Resonator; it cannot poison you in a Tadpole |
| Tongue Thief | On Epicureans | A parasite of fish, not of you | Nothing needed |
Marrowbreach
The Marrowbreach is the shark of Subnautica 2: an apex predator whose iron-and-salt-edged jaws cut bone, with small eyes drawn to bright light and keen senses for motion, electric fields and sound. Watch for "circling or test bumping" before it strikes (Dexerto, May 14, 2026). The first one meets you at Camp One, with the voice line "You are being hunted" (Unknown Worlds, Aug 19, 2026); another guards the third Bloom area on the way to Heat Tolerance, where PCGamesN distracts it with flares (May 14, 2026). Hotfix 3 (Jun 1, 2026) made it hit harder but attack less often (Unknown Worlds). In Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1, an especially large Marrowbreach lives in the Graveyard and plays an attack animation of its own.
Hammerhead
A territorial herd fish, an herbivore that rams with a water jet behind its eyes after closing a head shield, and rams coral domes too (Dexerto). At launch Hammerheads chased Tadpole lights home and waited at players' bases; Hotfix 2 (May 22, 2026) made them less attracted to those lights (Unknown Worlds). Hotfix 3 (Jun 1, 2026) stopped them attacking unpiloted Tadpoles, though they can still "take an interest", and fixed them sometimes ignoring flares (Unknown Worlds). Scanning one teaches the Homing Sense Biomod (Game Rant, May 20, 2026). In Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1, Hammerheads patrol the edges of the Coral Gardens, spar with one another, and flare their fins as a warning for about four seconds before they attack.
Nibbler Mango
Always hungry, territorial, and dangerous in groups; it flees larger predators, bright light and loud noise (Dexerto). PCGamesN met them at the second Bloom area northwest of the Lifepod and advises bringing flares (May 14, 2026). Hotfix 3 (Jun 1, 2026) shortened their perception range, slowed them and made them circle longer before attacking, but raised their damage and their sensitivity to the Multitool (Unknown Worlds); since 1.2 they visibly hunt small fish. Scan: Slow Metabolism. The clip is Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1.
Needler Mango
Aggressive and territorial, nesting in family groups and firing uranium-tipped tusks at up to about 20 m/s (Dexerto). Beebom lists Needler Nests as a micro-biome of their own, with Creature Enamel and Celestine to gather (May 19, 2026). The 1.2 notes call it "Needlershark". Scan: Dermal Garden. In Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1, the Needler Nest holds the only creature eggs in the game.
Bullethead
An "armored squid dart" that swarms and rams tail-first hard enough to punch titanium; alarms and beacons draw it (Dexerto). 1.2 made Bulletheads "deal more damage but can now be dodged (...sometimes)" (Unknown Worlds, Aug 19, 2026). Scan: Camouflage. In Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1, Bulletheads wait attached to rock formations and cliff walls until prey comes close.
Twin Sitaray
Electric predators born in pairs and linked by conductive mucus; they stun prey and are, in the Databank's words, "a serious threat to divers and to electrically powered vehicles and bases" (Dexerto). The 1.2 notes call it "Twin Eel" and gave it flinch animations.
Sandspear
A crustacean buried in the sand that grabs you from below. Patch notes fixed it grabbing players "from a minimal touch" and floating out of the ground when a base or Tadpole blocked its nest (1.2), and fixed an unburied Sandspear needing several approaches before attacking (1.1) (Unknown Worlds). Scan: Bioluminescence. In Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1, it dangles a glowing lure above the sand, and its grab plays a short cutscene.
Foureye, Bloom Parasite and Tongue Thief
The Foureye bites; 1.2 fixed its attack hitbox and added a missing animation. The Bloom Parasite has been "the primary encounter creature" of The Bloom since 1.1; its poison no longer reaches players inside a Tadpole since 1.2, which also gave it a new model (Unknown Worlds, Jul 8, 2026). Destroy parasites with the Sonic Resonator. The Tongue Thief is a crustacean that anchors to an Epicurean's tongue and blocks its fullness signals, causing "intense and unremitting hunger" (Dexerto); an Epicurean carries only one since 1.2. The infected Epicurean, a shieldless cousin of the Hammerhead, turns aggressive when hungry. In Kingfisher's Jun 19, 2026 video, on the build before update 1.1, an Epicurean carrying a Tongue Thief visibly bloats each time it eats, and Bloom Parasites are found only near Angel Combs.
How to deter creatures
- Survival Multitool: since 1.1 most creatures flee when you hit them and only defend themselves for a while afterward (Unknown Worlds, Jul 8, 2026).
- Sonic Resonator: a dizzy state since 1.1, a 10-second stun since 1.2.
- Feedback Resonator: stuns instead of scaring away since 1.2.
- Flares: distract the Marrowbreach and Nibblers; Hammerheads are drawn to them since Hotfix 3. Since 1.2 a lit flare is no longer used up while you drive a Tadpole.
- Stay in the Tadpole around Bloom Parasites, and keep lights and beacons low where Bulletheads swim.
Recipes for these tools are on Tools and Modifications and Crafting Recipes. Leviathans are another matter: see Collector Leviathan and Shiver Leviathan.
Frequently asked questions
What are the most dangerous creatures in Subnautica 2? Below the Leviathans, the Marrowbreach, Hammerhead, Nibbler Mango, Needler Mango and Bullethead do the most damage in Subnautica 2; the Collector Leviathan is the deadliest creature overall.
How do you stop a Marrowbreach attacking in Subnautica 2? Throw a flare to distract it, or hit it with the Survival Multitool so it flees; watch for circling and test bumps, its warning signs.
Why do Hammerheads follow my Tadpole in Subnautica 2? At launch Tadpole lights drew them, even back to bases; Hotfix 2 (May 22, 2026) reduced that, and Hotfix 3 (Jun 1, 2026) stopped them attacking unpiloted Tadpoles.
Can you kill Nibblers in Subnautica 2? No. Subnautica 2 has no weapons; Nibbler Mangos flee bright light, loud noise and the Multitool.
Does the Sonic Resonator stun creatures in Subnautica 2? Yes. Since update 1.2 (Aug 19, 2026) a Sonic Resonator hit stuns most creatures for 10 seconds.
What is a Bullethead in Subnautica 2? A swarming squid that rams tail-first through titanium, drawn by alarms and beacons; since 1.2 it hits harder but can sometimes be dodged.

LeviathansSubnautica 2 has four Leviathans in Early Access as of Nov 4, 2026: the Collector Leviathan, the Shiver Leviathan, the Great Jaw and the Deepwing Brooder. Only the Collector hunts you inside the play area, and Early Access 2 in December 2026 makes it scarier. -
PlateausThe Plateaus are Subnautica 2's rocky biome about 300 m northeast of the Lifepod, 23 to 119 m deep by All Things How's count, with Camp One, the Old Habitat and the caves that hold the early Silver; the sandy Lead Zone lies nearby.
-
Anemone HillsThe Anemone Hills are Subnautica 2's biome of towering pink-and-green anemones about 300 m northwest of the Lifepod, 0 to 151 m deep, where the infected Heat Tolerance Angel Comb waits behind Bloom you clear with the Sonic Resonator.
-
GraveyardThe Graveyard is Subnautica 2's hot, orange-watered biome, 0 to 266 m deep, that needs the Heat Tolerance Adaptation; it holds Gold, Salt, Sulfur and Lithium, the Tadpole Pens, Tailings Village, a Cicada Wreck, Nahema's Lab and hundreds of Water Slugs.
-
Dolerite SpiresThe Dolerite Spires are a maze of jagged volcanic pillars in Subnautica 2's starting region, shallow to mid depth, with Lithium and Titanium, Quaker's Meetinghouse and two Spires wrecks that All Things How lists for the High Capacity Air Tank and the Rebreather on the launch build.
-
Necrolei HillsThe Necrolei Hills are Subnautica 2's infected hills about 300 m northwest of the Lifepod, the main source of Necrolei Cysts for Strong Acid, with Copper, Titanium, Deepwing Egg Clumps and fauna mutated by the Bloom.
